These new apartment designs at Southdowns Park form part of the residential conversion and regeneration of the St Francis' Hospital, a collection of Grade II Listed Victorian buildings that were once an NHS asylum in West Sussex.

To complement the original Italianate Victorian architecture found elsewhere on the development, the elevations of the new apartments feature multi-coloured brick banding and brick arches above the windows. The colourful brickwork combines with carefully designed masonry details to harmonise with the original polychromatic architecture.

The project included the complex negotiations needed to obtain planning permission and listed building approval from the local authority as well as the detailed design of the building.

The 14 new luxury apartments are on the south-east corner of the site and replace several poor quality additions to the main building that were demolished. The apartments are mainly two-bedroom with some including a gallery floor above the living area that can be used as a home office or sleeping space for guests. Many of the apartments benefit from extensive views across the South Downs and each has allocated private parking and use of the communal gardens.
