This cinema design for Robin Cinemas created two auditoria by conversion of an existing cinema building.
The projection room above the original auditorium was retained and redesigned to allow the projectionist to operate both screens simultaneously. Projection onto the new screen was achieved using a periscope arrangement of mirrors.
New tiered floors were constructed to improve audience sightlines and the acoustics were enhanced by installing a new Dolby sound system and by careful selection of materials to control the reverberation times within each auditorium.
New upholstered seating and increased leg-room between the rows of seats greatly improved audience comfort. The foyer was also redesigned to improve ticket sales and to promote sales of food and drink.
Derek Eaglen was the project architect for this and several other multi-screen cinema conversions with FDF Architects.
