These two rows of affordable terraced houses were designed for a local authority in West Sussex. Located on steeply sloping ground between two parallel roads on a new housing development, the site was considered to be too steep for an acceptable access road.
The two terraces face each other across tiered landscaping. A semi-private tree-lined footpath gives access to the houses through the front gardens and links the existing roads at the north and south of the site.
Each house has small rear garden and a generous private terrace in front of the house. A smaller covered terrace is set back behind the front facade.
The house plans are identical, with three bedrooms on the ground floor and the kitchen and living room on the first floor. A small south-facing upper terrace and the large living room window give views over the tree-lined footpath, the front gardens and distant countryside.
